VLADIVOSTOK – A powerful windstorm struck east-central Russia’s Irkutsk Oblast on Saturday, causing widespread disruptions including massive power outages and multiple fires, the regional office of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia said on its Telegram channel.
Wind speeds reached 34 meters per second, prompting the precautionary shutdown of electricity in over 101,000 households across 613 settlements in eight districts, the ministry said.
No casualties have been reported, but significant damage has been done to the region’s several districts.
