BEIRUT — Eleven people were killed and nine others injured in Israeli airstrikes on southern and eastern Lebanon on Thursday, Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reported.
Israeli warplanes carried out a series of airstrikes on the eastern city of Baalbek, with one strike targeting a two-story building in the al-Shaab neighborhood, killing nine people and injuring five others, according to the NNA.
Rescue teams from the Islamic Health Authority and Civil Defense are continuing efforts to remove rubble and search for survivors.
Earlier, Israeli warplanes launched 16 airstrikes on the southern city of Nabatieh and surrounding areas, in addition to 11 raids on towns near Tyre and Bint Jbeil, according to Lebanese military sources.
A source from the Lebanese Red Cross told Xinhua that the airstrikes on Nabatieh killed two people and wounded four others.
Since Sept. 23, Israel has intensified air attacks on Lebanon in a marked escalation of tensions with Hezbollah. The Israeli military also launched a ground operation across its northern border into Lebanon in early October.
